CS SD NAND Integrates Four Categories of Flash Management Mechanisms:

• Wear-leveling Mechanism. Each block in NAND Flash has limited erase cycles. Wear-leveling algorithm will determine which physical block to use each time data is programmed, so that P/E cycles are distributed evenly among all of the blocks in the device. It can make SD NAND's more stable and reliable.

• EDC/ECC Mechanism. When writing a sector of data, the EDC/ECC block in the controller generates a checksum that is stored in the flash along with the data.  The checksum is used later when the data is read out. If an error(NAND has bit-flipping) is detected during a read operation, the controller generates a syndrome that is then used to correct the data.

• Homogenous electrical charge scattering Mechanism. Most OS have logic hot spots may create physical hot spots which can create strong electric fields in the flash component, it may in turn damage the unit. The algorithm set guarantees physically homogenous electrical charge scatterings across the physical media, which prevents a concentration of electrical fields in a single area through mutual field cancellation. This prevents physical damage to the cells and blocks in the flash.

• Garbage Collection Mechanism.  It eliminates the need to erase the whole block prior to every write. The garbage collection process accumulates data marked for erase as garbage and performs whole block erases for space reclamation in order to reuse the block.
